This bag is made from vintage textiles from the village of Nahuala in Guatemala. It is approximately 20 to 30 years old. It is made from a huipil (traditional Mayan woman's blouse) which was woven on a back-strap loom. Huipiles from Nahuala are characterized by their unique and whimsical animals, birds, and plants that are woven into the cloth. The huipil is the most important element of a woman's traditional dress as the design and style of each is specific to the village in which the woman lives.
Pouch is large with zippered closure. Lined. Both sides of the pouch are pictured.
Note the whimsical animals in the weaving.
